Utah Legislature passes bill paving way for state vendors to be paid in gold and silver:
Ivory said HB306 is a continuation of his efforts and those of other lawmakers who paved the way in 2011 with a law that made gold and silver coins legal tender in the state.
“This just takes another step to begin making gold fractional and transactional, where you could buy a soda pop or buy a business, with gold,” said bill sponsor Rep. Ken Ivory. “And so, (this legislation) begins to make, electronic, fractional transactional, gold and silver as a payment system that’s recognized under the Constitution.”
“The U.S. Senate unanimously passed resolution 600 — they warned that China and Europe are developing alternate payment systems to weaken the dollar,” he said. “This gives people in Utah and the state payment options, because you know, with a $37 trillion debt and overspending $2 trillion a year, it’s good to have options and it’s good to have options that hold their value across decades, across centuries.”

A call between President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin ended with a limited agreement for Russia and Ukraine to cease attacks on energy infrastructure but stopped short of a U.S. proposal for a temporary truce.
The United States said Russia had agreed to an energy and infrastructure ceasefire. After Moscow and Kyiv agree to stop hitting each other's power plants and electric grids, negotiators would move on to a potential halt in fighting on the Black Sea − and then to a full ceasefire and peace agreement in the 3-year-old Ukraine war, a White House statement said.
Trump said on social media the talk ended "with an understanding that we will be working quickly to have a Complete Ceasefire and, ultimately, an END to this very horrible War between Russia and Ukraine. ...
"That process is now in full force and effect, and we will, hopefully, for the sake of Humanity, get the job done!"

Hungarian lawmakers on Tuesday passed a bill that would ban Pride events and allow authorities to use facial recognition technology to identify those who participate in them.
The Associated Press reported thousands of protesters gathered outside the Hungarian parliament in Budapest, the country’s capital, after MPs approved the measure by a 136-27 vote margin. The protesters later blocked traffic on the nearby Margaret Bridge over the Danube River.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and members of his government in recent weeks said they would ban public Pride marches in Budapest. The 30th Budapest Pride is scheduled to take place on June 28.

Japanese and South Korean defence stocks have surged to record highs on expectations that European countries will purchase more military equipment from Asia after Donald Trump threatened to withdraw the US’s security umbrella.
Shares in Hanwha Aerospace, South Korea’s leading artillery company, are up 134 per cent this year, while Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Japan’s largest defence contractor, has gained 26 per cent.
The stocks rose 6.8 per cent and 12.2 per cent, respectively, on Monday after German lawmakers agreed to increase infrastructure and defence spending last week.

Donald Trump wants to keep Chinese carmakers out of the US, but that won’t stop them from taking over the rest of the world. They already are.
From Bangkok to Johannesburg to Sao Paulo, the streets are increasingly jammed with inexpensive compacts, crossovers and SUVs made by companies like Great Wall Motor Co., BYD Co., Chery Automobile Co. and SAIC Motor Corp.
While the Trump administration is expected to shield the US’s Big Three from Chinese rivals at home, and Canada and the European Union have placed tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles, buyers in emerging markets have welcomed Chinese cars and trucks with open arms — posing a new threat to growth-hungry global automakers.
China sends more vehicles abroad than any other country, and its passenger car exports surged nearly 20% to 4.9 million in 2024 alone, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers — from less than 1 million in 2020.

The plans would establish a military-controlled, 60-foot-deep buffer zone along the southern border that could extend from west Texas near El Paso to the Pacific Ocean in Southern California north of Tijuana, Mexico, five U.S. officials familiar with the deliberations told the Post.
The Defense Department announced a joint task force earlier this month that would help “secure and seal the southern border,” with a headquarters at Fort Huachuca in Arizona, and the buffer zone would likely be designated as a temporary annex for nearby military installations like Huachuca, officials told the Post.
Trump ordered thousands of active-duty troops to the southern border shortly after his inauguration in January, and about 10,000 service members are involved in border security efforts as of this month.

🇮🇱 Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday slammed the so-called “Deep State” in a post on his official “prime minister” X account, harnessing some of the same rhetoric used by US President Donald Trump to dismiss his critics.
Less than a half hour after the tweet was posted, Netanyahu deleted it from his official account and posted the same message from his personal account.
While customarily meant to remain outside of political arguments, President Isaac Herzog’s office offered a rebuttal to Netanyahu’s post, writing on X, “Israel’s strong and independent judicial system is an asset to our democracy, and the president of Israel is very proud of it.”
Also Wednesday, Hebrew media reported that Netanyahu and other ministers berated Baharav-Miara and the legal establishment during Tuesday night’s cabinet meeting, when ministers met to reappoint far-right politician Itamar Ben Gvir as national security minister.
Ministers approved Ben Gvir’s return to the role despite opposition from Baharav-Miara, who had advised Netanyahu that doing so would not be possible from a legal perspective.
“Trump didn’t believe when he heard about the depth of the deep state in Israel, which is as deep as the ocean,” Netanyahu was cited as saying by the Kan public broadcaster.

The fight against terrorism in the West Bank could significantly expand, says Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a visit to the undercover Border Police “Mista’arvim” unit.

As part of a plan to address labor shortages in rural Japan, the government will expand the eligibility for financial aid, now including people working in agriculture, medicine, welfare, or self-employment, in addition to those employed by small regional firms.
The program targets individuals living in Tokyo who relocate to areas outside of the Kantō region. People moving alone can receive up to $4,000 while households can receive up to $6,600 with an additional $6,600 for each child under 18.

The Municipality Director of the occupied West Bank’s Jenin, Mamdouh Assaf, said on 17 March that the city has been almost completely destroyed by the Israeli siege and assault, which has been ongoing for nearly two months.
“Jenin has been under full occupation for 56 days, and 3,200 homes have been evacuated,” Assaf said, adding that “one-hundred percent of the Jenin Refugee Camp has been leveled, and 85 percent of the streets in Jenin have been destroyed.”
Over 43,000 people have been displaced in both Jenin and Tulkarem. At least 47 have been killed, and dozens of others injured.
Israeli forces have destroyed hundreds of homes and buildings in both cities with explosives and bulldozers. Several areas of the Jenin and Tulkarem camps have been taken over and transformed into military posts.
