📝 🇺🇸 🇻🇪 Sal Mercogliano on X: "Let's take a moment and discuss the US seizure of MT Skipper off the coast of Venezuela."
"This ship sounds off several alarms for its past actions including ship-to-ship transfers of sanctioned cargo; sanctioned cargo movements; sailing into contested areas, and no clear insurance and flag of registry."
"What promoted the seizure specifically for the US was two loads of Iranian oil shipped to China in the first half of the year."
"The US issues an arrest order for the ship (yes, ships can be arrested). To execute this order, it has to be done by law enforcement, hence the US Coast Guard participation."
"The bonus appears that they waited for the ship to load a cargo of Venezuelan crude for Cuba before the seizure. The ship is underway and heading north."

The Department of Justice requested and was approved for a warrant to seize a vessel because it's a sanctioned shadow vessel known for carrying black market sanctioned oil to the IRGC, which is a sanctioned entity.
The president is committed to stopping the illegal flow of drugs into our country.
He's also fully committed to effectuating this administration's sanction policy, and that's what you saw and the world saw take place yesterday.

The vessel has been seized — the Department of Justice did that in conjunction with the Coast Guard and the Department of War.
The vessel is currently undergoing a forfeiture process right now.
The U.S. currently has a full investigative team on the ground and on the vessel, and individuals on board the vessel are being interviewed, and any relevant evidence is being seized.
With respect to the oil, that's a different issue. The vessel will go to a U.S. port, and the United States does intend to seize the oil. However, there is a legal process for the seizure of that oil, and that legal process will be followed.

🇯🇵 🇨🇳 Japan Protests After Chinese J-15 Figthers Lock Radar on JASDF Jets Near Okinawa - Naval News
A J-15 fighter jet launched from the Chinese Navy’s aircraft carrier Liaoning intermittently directed its radar at a JASDF F-15 that was conducting an intercept response over international airspace southeast of Okinawa Island between around 4:32 p.m. and 4:35 p.m. on December 6, the defense ministry said.
According to the ministry, this marks the first time Tokyo has formally disclosed an incident in which Chinese military aircraft locked their radar onto Japan’s Self-Defense Forces jets.
The activation of a fire-control mode—commonly referred to as a “lock-on”—is widely regarded in international military practice as a dangerous and escalatory act, as it signals preparation for potential weapons release.
