Review of the recent clinical trials for PD-1/PD-L1 based lung cancer immunotherapy

🔰Cancer cells abuse the PD-1/PD-L1 pathway to avoid immune destruction.

🔰Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) block the PD-1/PD-L1 pathway and strengthen the anti-tumor activity.

🔰Studies comparing ICIs with conventional medications, have shown promising, yet challenging outcomes.

🔰To date, FDA has successfully approved several PD-1 and PD-L1 inhibitors to enter medical practice.

🔰ICIs may cause complications ranging from a minor skin rash to an aggressive hyperprogressive disease.

TGF-β signaling and the interaction between platelets and T-cells in tumor microenvironment: Foes or friends?

🔰In pre-cancer status, platelets have a contribution with T cells in order to eliminate tumor cells.

🔰Platelets are considered as a huge source of chemical components stimulating a variety of signaling pathways in other cells.

🔰In the advanced stage of cancer, platelets are helped to promote tumor growth by suppressing T cells.

🔰Depending on the stage of cancer, TGF-β which is released from platelets and its receptor can alternate tumor suppression with tumor progression.

The role of myeloid-derived suppressor cells in lung cancer and targeted immunotherapies

🔰Despite perceptible progression made in lung cancer treatments, it remains the prominent cause of cancer-related death worldwide.

🔰MDSCs are diverse cells derived from immature myeloid cells (IMCs) in pathological conditions, such as cancer.

🔰MDSCs play a crucial role in suppressing the immune system and promoting tumors' growth, angiogenesis, and metastasis during cancers.

🔰Different factors mediate MDSCs recruitment and immunosuppressive functions, which all can be studied as a new strategy for targeted immunotherapy of lung cancer.

Aberrant DNA methylation of the promoters of JAK2 and SOCS3 in juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus

🔰Cytokine dysregulation is one of the important hallmarks of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in both pediatric and adult patients.

🔰Owing to the substantial role of Janus kinase (JAK) and suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS) in cytokine signaling, we compared the methylation status of the promoter of JAK2 and SOCS3 between patients with JSLE and healthy controls.

🔰According to the results of our study, hypomethylation of the promoter of JAK2 and hypermethylation of the promoter of SOCS3 associate with JSLE.

🔰These alterations are possible mechanisms for activation of the JAK2 and suppression of the SOCS3 gene, respectively.
