A 26-year-old rookie police officer with the Philadelphia Police is fighting for their life in critical condition after being shot at pointblank range by a man in his 30s, who ambushed police as they were breaking up a brawl outside Overbrook Highschool. The man reportedly arrived at the scene in a vehicle as officers attempted to breakup and arrest brawlers outside the school, where he pulled out a Ruger-5.7 and opened fire on police. The gunman was arrested at the scene.

Down on the other end of the city as the shooting took place, Police Commissioner Bethel and Mayor Parker were attending a ceremony honoring the lives of officers shot in the line of duty. (5-7-25)
