Ho notato, negli ultimi tempi, che alcuni mi definiscono un fedifrago, come se ciò fosse una vergogna. Ma io vi chiedo, esiste forse impegno più grande del tradimento? Ai fini del mio interesse amoroso attuale, rifiutarsi di collaborare equivale a rifiutarsi di crescere... o, se preferite, suicidarsi. Si è forse il dipnoo rifiutato di respirare l'aria? Certo che no. Si è trascinato coraggiosamente fino a quando la sua specie non ha raggiunto i neri abissi dell'oceano, con occhi fissi per sempre nel buio, benché ignaro del destino che lo attendeva. Vogliamo comportarci come dei trilobiti? E tutte le conquiste sessuali devono forse essere destinate a ridursi a un semplice strato di frammenti di plastica sparsi in un letto di fossili, compressi tra ammassi di scisto e millenni di fango? Per restare fedeli alla nostra natura e al nostro destino, dobbiamo aspirare a fiche più grandi. Dobbiamo uscire dalla culla. Perché rimpiangere il latte materno, quando il nostro vero mezzo di sussistenza ci attende tra le mammelle altrui? E solo l'unione novizia che gli sciocchi chiamano "Tradimento" può condurmi lassù. FAQs about the VN.
•How much will it cost once it comes out?
>Nothing. This entire thing is a demo for bigger things to eventually come. It will release on itch.io for Win and Android. There's also plans for a steam version, but that will come later.
•What do you mean with "demo"?
>This VN is thought as a short free experience to introduce the public to the world of Astri Nascenti. Once this comes out, based on the reception and whatnot, we intend to open a Kickstarter and work on the bigger project. This demo will also function as a blueprint for me to re-use on that.
•So, what's the story about?
>I'm not a marketing guy, so I still need to find a way to make it as catchy as possible. The story is about a weird shadow commanding a man to write a cast of weird characters trying to get their shit together without succumbing to the dark realities of their world. I personally define it as an Anti-Fantasy for reasons you'll see.
•How does this story relate to the story of "the bigger project"?
>This story is a prequel to the events I'll tackle in that one. Most of the stuff I write about is loosely based on Campaigns I've mastered as a DM, but even then, a lot of the stuff is re-written from the ground up to better fit the narrative needs of a "book". The big advantage is that I do know what's to come and have some very useful guidelines to steer the narration, but I won't ever just transcribe the events or the characters in them. It would be ineffective and disrespectful. Furthermore, the events of the campaigns and the novel are canonically distinct. But I won't publicly go into details about that.
•So the magic system would be that of DnD 5e?
>As of now, yes, it will. It's the thing I know best and I should be legally able to use it as long as the proper copyrighted stuff is taken care of. In the last few years though, there have been some changes to how Wotc approaches licensing and it is still unclear what changed after they went back and forth on some stuff.
If there's gonna be any problem, I'll just change it. It's not that relevant in the grand schemes of things.
•So, is the novel based on the DnD canon in any capacity?
>No, it absolutely is not. The world is completely authentic and separated.
This is mostly why the magic system is not that relevant to the story.
The cosmology in particular is something I put care into.
A lot of the races in AN do come from the classic "fantasy setting", but that's pretty standard. You'll have your elves, your dwarves, your tieflings and whatnot. There's also gonna be weird critters, unspeakable creatures and a bunch of European folklore stuff that are not usually depicted in most fantasy media. Keep an eye out for that.
•Is there a release date?
>I'm just working on it. Joeri and Nori help me a great deal with sprites, but I still have to do everything else on my own. Considering I have next to zero skills in programming, it's not that easy for me to set a release date. Mental health stuff does also get in the way, I won't lie.
I'll do as much as I can to share the progress on the channel.
