LENTEN RULES
ALL CATHOLICS over the age of 14 are obliged to practice ABSTINENCE during the WHOLE period of Lent, which BEGAN on ASH WEDNESDAY and ENDS on GOOD FRIDAY.
ALL CATHOLICS over the age of 18 up to their 60th birthday are obliged to FAST at least on ASH WEDNESDAY and GOOD FRIDAY
The mentally infirm, the ill, those who have to work hard and those who cannot refuse a meal are EXEMPT from these rules as long as the situation persists
WHAT TO EAT DURING ABSTINENCE?
You should abstain from eating meat from animals that BLEED, that is, but not exclusive to POULTRY, CATTLE, OVINES, RODENTS, SWINES.
You may, however, eat FISH, REPTILE and AMPHIBIAN meat.
WHAT TO DO DURING FASTING?
You should take one large meal (respecting the abstinence rules above), and two lesser meals that together are equal to the larger one. Milk and similar drinks COUNT as meal as they can keep you nourished.
FASTING TRADITIONALLY BEGINS AT SUNRISE AND ENDS AFTER 3PM.
Remember: LENT is a period for rebirth. You are supposed give up things you really like and that keep you from being a saint in order to enter Heaven. Try to develop an ascetic life, there's plenty about this on the internet.
The pillars of lent are: FASTING, ALMS GIVING, PRAYER and MORTIFICATION. I gave you tips on the first and last ones. The others are up to you and your soul.
Each person has a different spiritual experience and a different way to talk to God. Develop yours, and have a blessed Lent! Pray for those in Purgatory.
