RT @WEkEO_dias: Captured by the @CopernicusEU Sentinel-3 satellite on 21 June, this image reveals the intense sea surface temperatures across the Mediterranean Sea.

According to @MercatorOcean, June 2025 set a new record as the warmest June ever in the region🌡️ with an average surface temperature (SST) of 23.86 ± 0.47°C, surpassing the previous record from 2003. The first half of 2025 was the hottest semester on record, with a staggering 88% of the Mediterranean basin experiencing high-intensity marine heatwave conditions.

🌊Marine heatwaves affected 62% of the sea surface, compared to 40% during the same period in 2024—the largest extent ever observed.

🧭 The western Mediterranean was hit the hardest, facing unprecedented levels of heatwaves intensity, duration, and extent.

It's #WhereInTheWorld Wednesday! 🎉

On July 22, 2025, #NOAA21 saw this small circular complex of eroded lava domes that rise above California's Sacramento Valley. Together, these remnants of a volcano that has been dormant for ~1.4 million years are referred to as the world's smallest mountain range.
