An exciting milestone for Metop-SGB1, the second satellite to join EUMETSAT's next generation of polar-orbiting satellites. 🛰️ 👏

One step closer to space🚀💫 The next-generation weather satellite MetOp-SG-B1 has successfully completed its solar array deployment test.
This was one of the last key milestones to ensure MetOp-SG-B1 is ready for its weather forecasting mission, with a launch set for the second half of the year. The 24 m² solar arrays will power the satellite so it can complete 14 Earth orbits per day.
Behind the weather that you check on your phones everyday are satellites like the MetOp series (@Eumetsat and @esa Meteorological Operational mission @esa_eo). With its five cutting-edge instruments, MetOp-SG-B1 will complement the data provided by its sister MetOp-SG A1, in orbit since August 2025.
The MetOp-SG-B1 microwave and radar instruments will observe the Earth and provide crucial data to help both climatologists and meteorologists to be more precise in weather forecasting like temperature, humidity, as well as wind speed and direction.🌀
