We’re entering the second half of this decisive decade — and the old climate narratives aren’t enough.

In our recent #ACT webinar, @AniDasguptaWRI asked global leaders a hard question: How do we unlock real climate progress now?

Here’s what they shared: https://t.co/usN0VOcOWT https://t.co/uswtuuSOOa

🌍5 reasons why Agroecology in African Drylands matters?

1️⃣ For Herders and Pastoralists, agroecology protects grazing corridors and manages pasture rest and water points so herders can move seasonally, keep rangelands healthy, and reduce conflict.
2️⃣ For small stakeholders, agroecology stabilizes yields in drought years and opens diversified income from tree products by improving soil moisture and tree cover.
3️⃣ For women and youth groups, agroecology creates accessible local enterprises—seed and grass nurseries, tree-product processing, restoration services—building jobs and incomes.
4️⃣ For local governments, agroecology provides a coherent planning and investment framework—where to place water infrastructure, how to zone farm–pasture interfaces, and how to clarify tenure—so scarce public funds work better
5️⃣ For civil society organizations, agroecology strengthens farmer-to-farmer learning and adaptive management, generating practical evidence that informs restoration, climate, and food policy.

Nitrogen fertilizer helped feed billions — but nearly half of what’s used today doesn’t end up nourishing crops. That “lost” nitrogen becomes pollution across water, air, & climate. Fixing the nitrogen paradox is critical. Find out why: https://t.co/jpnZW4yNxs

🌱Agroecology is one of the most practical pathways to restore land and biodiversity, strengthen livelihoods, and build climate resilience in Africa’s drylands.

🐂In these mosaic landscapes, solutions cannot work in isolation. By combining locally led practices such as Farmer-Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), soil–water harvesting, adaptive grazing, reseeding, and diversified agroforestry, communities are restoring ecosystem health while improving food and fodder security, incomes, and social cohesion.

📚These two companion publications—the Technical Discussion Paper and the Policy Brief—translate field evidence from across African drylands into actionable guidance. They show how agroecology delivers measurable progress under the UNCCD, UNFCCC, and CBD, and identify what is required to scale impact—offering both practitioners and decision-makers a coherent roadmap for restoring multifunctional dryland landscapes in ways that are ecologically sound, socially just, and policy-aligned.
