I had an illuminating conversation recently about history. Much of our discourse and banter about history are pugilistic memes. They are meant to push a party line and narrative. Problem arrise when keystone memes are too disconnected from actual history - not all disconnects are fatal, but when it is, you lose all hope of winning the earnest watcher. DEI types who complain about the 3/5ths clause are an easy example from the other side of committing this fatal sin. Yankee rapine mythology is an example from our side. When charging a crime, be meticulous. You see wignats go over the 6 million with a fine tooth comb and then casually equate American occupation with Soviet occupation.
