Your article on Holli Sullivan says ‘It was a shocking outcome for Vanderburgh County Republican activists, who watched June 18 as one of their own lost her grip on the third-highest office in Indiana state government.’

This is not the case. Vanderburgh County Republican activists opposed Holli Sullivan. It was the establishment Republicans who supported her. Thankfully, they were in the minority.

Also, her loss wasn’t just because of her connection to Holcomb. Although that was obviously a factor, she could easily have overcome it by telling the truth about election system vulnerabilities in Indiana and taking steps to correct them. 

There is also a rebellion against the establishment Republicans who see the party as theirs and not the Republican voters’. Because Holli was appointed to her state representative position, then appointed to her Secretary of State position, she is the poster child for the sorts of games the establishment plays to put who they want in office so they have the advantage of running as the incumbent. They also put a ridiculous claim in the platform about Indiana’s elections being so secure they are an example to other states. This claim was included to undermine Diego Morales’s position and, when the delegates tried to challenge the platform at the convention, the Chair simply ignored all the calls from the floor - citing rules that the delegates were denied the right to vote on (as the party rules require). In the seating at the convention, they even put the Vanderburgh County delegates front and center under the mistaken idea that they would visibly support Holli for everyone to see. That did not happen. Many were enthusiastic supporters of Diego Morales.

Here’s the Arizona Education Bill 2853 that allows the money to follow the student. Excellent idea. The EVSC is not transparent and squandering taxpayer money to manage the education funding. Smith and the EVSC board are embracing the Federal protocols. There is a reason students are exiting the public system and entering the private or parochial system.

This is a program to be embraced by the Indiana legislature to permit the parents to choose the educational opportunities for their child.

The public system is “dumbing down” the students and limiting the potential growth.
