This day, for me, is so difficult. On one hand it makes me sad bc I lost my dad the year before I retired. I was always a daddy’s girl. My dad was a long distance truck driver and my hero. He taught me how to work on trucks which led me to be an aircraft mechanic eventually leading to becoming a colonel. My dad taught me to drive a stick, his semi and how to back up yard trailers and semi trailers. Nothing was beyond my capability. Until I came in one day at 18 and told him I was thinking about joining the AF. He laughed at me. Said I couldn’t do it. Not in the reverse psychology way but in “you don’t get to talk back” “you have to keep your room clean” way. So when the TI yelled at me through basic all I could hear was my dad’s laugh. When my all male maintenance buddy’s tried to trick me with “go get the prop wash”, I heard that laugh. Any challenge I faced was met with the same attitude. I stood up for my troops and always did what was right not easy. Always trying to make my dad proud of me. He was very proud. Shocked, but proud.

The bright side of this day for me is my husband John Watkins. He has become the dad to my girls. He is an amazing man. I met him after I retired and when he’s introduced to ppl who worked for me, the typical response is “I thought you’d be taller” or something to that affect. He is the biblical definition of father and I’m so grateful God blessed my life with him.

Seems like a lot of ammo for the IRS, no?

AbsoluteConviction1776 missed something in his rant. The fascist can’t use the word “emancipation”in their “holiday” bc they’ve never view slaves as emancipated. Instead, they created an urban plantation and black overseers to disguised the slavery.
