Intelligence agencies are a tax extraction service.

Allow me to explain.

They manufacture the wars and at the same time control media apparatuses that manufacture the consent necessary to engage in those wars. In doing this, they create a system of tax extraction from the public.

Your money is taxed and funneled into lucrative contracts with defense corporations that are staffed by the relatives, friends, and colleagues of the people writing the tax laws themselves.
Those Defense Corporations then turn around and outsource their labor through the federal prison service through wholly US government owned corporations like UNICOR, who use federal inmates as a slave labor force, building and manufacturing the weapons of war they contracted out to the defense company. And again, the people writing the laws that create the tax extraction process also create the laws that determine how and when they can confine you to their prison industrial complex.
Those weapons, created by your slave labor force, are then used to decimate poorer nations that have routinely been subject to the machinations of the Intelligence Agencies who engage in regime change and creating economic and political instability and fostering conditions necessary for war to exist.
This ensures that the grift can continue endlessly.
The media steps in to do two things, predisposition you with nationalism so that you feel divided against each other (yay our designated murder team! Flags and chants! Flags and chants!) and to make sure you feel it is necessary to engage in a constant war effort somewhere (money money money). This is done by virtue of human rights stories, misreporting facts, and in general outright lying to the public, who in general are not violent or pro-war.

This all presents an issue, because in this realistic scenario you are neither free to choose, nor even free to percieve what freedom truly is.
The intelligence agency dictates through legislative and judiciary branches, the cage in which you exist, and uses you to engage in an endless stream of profit while blinding you to it through control of what you can see and hear.

All of it, in an effort to bleed you of your lives and resources and pocket as much of that revenue stream as is constantly possible.

Russia has won. The US media is spinning but the issuance of grain export agreements between Russia and Ukraine today, this weeks sacking and treason charges against top ukrainian intelligence and 650 officials, and the pullback of further US military support means one very clear thing:
