🇧🇷 — Brazilian Diplomacy Seeks Safe Return for Officials Stranded in Israel

The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) is actively monitoring two official Brazilian delegations stranded in Israel due to the closure of the country's airspace amid escalating tensions with Iran. The closure followed Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear targets, raising regional instability and travel restrictions.

The Brazilian embassy in Tel Aviv remains in contact with both groups, which include governors, mayors, and other political representatives from states like Rondônia, Goiás, and the Federal District. The ministry is coordinating efforts with the Israeli government to guarantee the safety of these officials and facilitate their return once conditions permit.

An alternative evacuation route through Jordan is under discussion. Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira has contacted his Jordanian counterpart to evaluate a land-based escape route to Amman, where return flights could be arranged. Until then, Israeli authorities have recommended that foreign delegations remain in place for safety.

Minister Gleisi Hoffmann also spoke directly with local officials, including the mayors of Belo Horizonte and João Pessoa, assuring them of the government’s efforts. The Brazilian Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee has requested support from the Air Force for a potential repatriation mission. Meanwhile, uncertainty and fear continue to grip the Brazilian citizens in the region.
