🇨🇴⚡️Petro declares “state of internal commotion” in Colombia due to security crisis with the ELN

Colombian President Gustavo Petro declared on January 20 a “state of internal commotion” and an “economic emergency” to address the security crisis in Catatumbo (north), where violence has claimed 80 civilian lives.

“The state of internal commotion and the state of economic emergency are declared. I expect judicial support. Military actions will advance alongside the economic transformation of violence-affected regions,” announced the president on his X account.

Petro referenced a video from the National Liberation Army (ELN), where one faction calls for combat against dissidents of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), accusing them of having “lost intelligence.”

“They speak of others but refer to themselves. They have lost intelligence. Revolution can only happen with the people and without violence. Peace is the revolutionary flag because it is the flag of life,” stated the leader.
