Fake DDR5 Modules Appear on Amazon — Actually DDR2 with fake Heatsinks

The more expensive the product, the greater the temptation to counterfeit it, and this year, DDR5 memory have started to fall into this category. As noted by the popular resource VideoCardz (https://videocardz.com/newz/new-scam-sealed-ddr5-kit-sold-as-new-hid-ddr2-sticks-and-a-fake-weight-plate), one of its Spanish readers managed to purchase four Adata XPG Caster memory kits in a 2 × 16 GB configuration on Amazon, one of which turned out to be a low-grade counterfeit based on DDR2 or DDR.

Planning to use some of the purchased memory kits for building computers, BravoNorris discovered that one of them was a fake. Inside the factory blister pack with full DDR5 identification marks of the specified series, there was a pair of DDR2 modules with paper imitations of heatsinks from the genuine memory attached to them. Additionally, a metal perforated plate, matched by weight and cut to the size of the packaging, was included with these fakes.
