A Mind Over Matter: The Life and Science of Philip W. Anderson

Dr. Zangwill presents a biographical survey of the life and science of Nobel Laureate Philip W. Anderson, arguably the most productive and influential theoretical physicist of the second half of the twentieth century. He discusses Anderson's upbringing in the American Midwest during the Great Depression, his education at Harvard University, his service during WW II, and his subsequent career as a condensed matter physicist at Bell Laboratories, Cambridge University, and Princeton University. He shares the back story for some of his best-known scientific achievements and also for some of his forays into national and scientific politics. A few remarks about his activities as a public intellectual and his personal life round out the talk.

چندی پیش بود که آقای دکتر علی اکبر صالحی خبر از پروژه‌ی مخابره‌ی کوانتومی بین برج میلاد و برج آزادی دادند. این فرآیندی است که در طی آن اطلاعات با امنیت بالایی مخابره می‌شود. این فناوری یکی از فناوری‌های روز دنیاست که پیش‌بینی می‌شود به زودی دنیای انتقال اطلاعات را تصاحب کند. در این نوشته قصد داریم تا با مفهوم انتقال پیام به سبک فناوری کوانتومی آشنا شویم. این توضیح را در ۵ سطح انجام می‌دهیم.

Project denoscription: The PhD position offered is connected to a project grant to Carl Nettelblad. The project focus is the development and usage of artificial intelligence models for discovering population structure and predicting production traits in plant and animal breeding. This work is partially conducted in collaboration with industry partners. The development of more advanced methodology can promote diversity preservation efforts relating to historical local varieties.

We create our own models for these applications, since there are no neural networks that perform well in this space. There is a preprint available describing our foundational model, with applications to human genome data instead. This is an interdisciplinary project. Previous knowledge of genetics is not a requirement, but the successful completion of the project will require an interest in the application area. Interest and knowledge relating to neural network models and numerical optimization are crucial to the project.
