Meta Just Stole Apple’s AI Star — Here’s Why It Matters

The Core: Meta just hired Ruoming Pang, Apple’s head of foundation AI, with a massive offer — joining other top hires in Meta’s Superintelligence team, including names from OpenAI and Anthropic.

The details:
- Pang led Apple’s 100-person team building AI for Apple Intelligence and Siri.
- Meta offered him a package reportedly worth tens of millions.
- He joins the new division led by Alexandr Wang.
- Tensions at Apple grew after talks of using OpenAI or Anthropic models over its own.
- Bloomberg says more Apple AI engineers are planning to leave.

Why it matters: Meta is draining Apple’s top AI talent. While Apple’s AI rollout stumbles, Meta is stacking its bench — and Apple’s internal AI efforts are falling apart.

This AI Video Tool Could Change Hollywood

The Core: Moonvalley, started by ex-DeepMind researchers, just launched Marey — an AI video model built for filmmakers, trained only on licensed content.

The details:

- Uses only approved footage to avoid copyright issues.
- Gives full control over camera, lighting, motion, and backgrounds
Integrates directly into VFX pipelines.

- Starts at $14.99/month — clips cost about $1–$2 each.
- Backed by $100M+ in funding, launched with Asteria Film Co.

Why it matters: While most AI tools scare creators, Marey is built for them — ethical, precise, and powerful. It could shift AI’s role in film from threat to collaborator.

The Core: In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to use Gemini AI to prepare for meetings — by analyzing your calendar, reviewing past emails, and researching participants to generate comprehensive briefings before every call.

Step-by-step:

- Enable Gemini’s Google Workspace in settings to connect Gmail and Calendar
- Ask: “Check my calendar for this week and show me all my meetings with participant details”

- Review history: “Search my Gmail for previous conversations with [name] and summarize our past interactions in [timeframe]”

- Get strategy: “Based on my upcoming meeting with [name], our previous chats, and current [company] context, suggest 5 questions I should prepare”

Pro Tip: After meetings, ask the AI to draft follow-up email templates based on the talking points you prepared and discussed.

Debugging with AI: My Simple Strategy

1). Ask for hypotheses, not just fixes
Instead of “Fix this,” I ask, “What could be causing this, and how would you solve it?” This reveals the model’s reasoning and avoids unnecessary code.

2). Focus on the why
“What’s causing this error?” gives clearer, more helpful answers than “What’s the fix?”

3). Always include logs
Full tracebacks, errors, or test outputs give the model real data to work with.

4). Say what you’ve already tried
Helps the model avoid dead ends and repeat suggestions.

5). Iterate with better context
Update the prompt with each step. If stuck, switch models but keep the full context — one might catch what the other missed.

The Core: In this tutorial, you will learn how to use Google's Gemini CLI to analyze your images and generate SEO-friendly filenames automatically, improving your content organization and search engine visibility.

Step-by-step:

Install Gemini CLI: npm install -g @google/gemini-cli and authenticate with your Google account

Test a single image analysis typing: gemini "Describe what's in [image1.png]"

Batch process: gemini “Process all images in this folder. For each image, analyze the content and rename it with a denoscriptive filename with relevant keywords for SEO purposes.”

Pro tip: Start with a small batch to understand how Gemini interprets your content, then scale up to your entire image library.

📱 Google’s powerful new open medical AI models

The Core: Google has updated its MedGemma suite with two new open-source medical AI models: a 27 billion parameter multimodal model that handles medical images and patient records, and MedSigLIP for analyzing images and text together.

Details:
🔂The models can interpret various medical data, like chest X-rays or skin issues. The smaller version works on everyday devices such as computers or smartphones.
🔂They achieve state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance: the 4B model scores 64.4% and the 27B model hits 87.7% on the MedQA benchmark, outperforming other models of similar size.
🔂In tests, the X-ray reports from MedGemma were accurate for real patient use 81% of the time, comparable to human radiologists.
🔂These models are customizable; examples include one hospital adapting them for traditional Chinese medicine texts, and another for prioritizing urgent X-rays.

Why it matters: This advance brings high-quality AI medical analysis to portable devices, lowering barriers for global healthcare innovation. It helps underserved patients and small clinics access advanced diagnostic tools easily.
