Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has proposed erecting a monument to Chinese President Xi Jinping outside the newly opened National Football Stadium in Minsk, a landmark project funded and built by China as part of its Belt and Road Initiative. The stadium, inaugurated on June 7, 2025, with Lukashenko in attendance, symbolizes the deepening ties between Belarus and China.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Lukashenko expressed gratitude to Xi and Chinese partners, noting that the stadium, built entirely at China's expense, combines Belarusian national traditions with advanced engineering. “It would be fitting to erect a monument to my friend Xi Jinping here,” Lukashenko said, describing the facility as a “monument” to Belarus-China friendship. The stadium, the largest and most modern in Belarus, meets top international standards.
