The Pharisees thought that by lengthy public prayers and shews in the flesh they would be gain favor in the eyes of God, but Jesus called them hypocrites for such. When in truth, God is looking for those who call on Him out of a pure heart (2 Tim. 2:22), just as the tax collector, the thief, and the Apostle Peter did
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matt. 5:8)
