The most profitable GPU mining solution on the market right now is the GTX 1070's because they are running at a total 150 Watts and have 8 gigs of ram. They are the best bang for your buck if you can get them under $400. For the new miners I would suggest trying to get second hand 290x cards because they are cheaper but their TDP is 300 Watts. When considering which coin to mine, one must consider the difficulty and the total hashing power of said PoW network. Whattomine is excellent in aggregating this information. There is also an asic page on this website. The more industrial miners provided by big asic companies (bitmain, bitfury, etc) are good but you need to consider the electric costs against the profits. For people in residential areas I suggest GPU mining. For miners who have the renewable or low power costs and can get a commercial meter from their electrical company the more power intensive asics are a good choice. Obviously, there are scaling issues with residential power because most electric plans from the power companies are tiered. This means that when you go over a certain amount of killowatt hours you start getting charged more for power usage.

Why BTC is going up? Main reason is upcoming HardForks. Yeah, you read it good.
