Supreme Court Revives Whistleblowers' Medicare, Medicaid Fraud Lawsuits
The US Supreme Court has revived two whistleblower lawsuits that accuse companies of defrauding Medicare and Medicaid. The cases relate to alleged violations of the federal False Claims Act (FCA), which is used by the government to fight healthcare fraud. The rulings follow a unanimous decision in June reviving whistleblower actions against pharmacy operators Safeway and SuperValu. The FCA allows private citizens to sue those who have defrauded the US government on the government's behalf. A company found guilty under the law will be fined $2,000 per false claim, as well as triple damages.

Ukrainian Grain Ban Should Be Extended — EU Member States
Five EU member states bordering Ukraine have called for an extension of the ban on imports of Ukrainian grain to the bloc, Hungary’s minister of agriculture, Istvan Nagy, said in an interview with Vilaggazdasag news outlet published on Saturday.
According to the minister, the ban is necessary to protect EU farmers who have suffered due to the dumping of Ukrainian agricultural products.
“Regarding the import restriction, Hungary shares a common position with Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia, which is that the European Commission should extend the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain products even after September 15, as this is the only way to protect the interests of European farmers,” Nagy stated.

India And UAE Agree To Settle Trade In Local Currencies
In a significant boost to the position of the Indian rupee, New Delhi and Abu Dhabi on Saturday agreed to create mechanisms for settling trade in national currencies, as opposed to using US dollars.
During Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s one-day visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), one of the largest oil producers in the Middle East, the two nations’ central banks signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a framework to promote the use of local currencies such as the rupee and the dirham for cross-border transactions. They will also link their instant payment systems, India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI), and the UAE’s Instant Payments Platform (IPP).
"This is a very important aspect of India-UAE cooperation. It paves the way for enhanced economic collaboration and will make international financial interactions simpler," the prime minister said.

China's Youth Unemployment Just Hit A New Record High As Q2 GDP Growth Disappoints
China's economy grew at a slower-than-expected pace of 6.3% in the second quarter of 2022, below economists' expectations of 7.1% growth. This decrease in growth was partly due to the strict COVID-19 restrictions in place during the quarter. Other macroeconomic data also showed mixed results, with industrial output beating estimates, retail sales missing expectations, and property investment and new construction declining. China's home sales growth also slowed in the first half of the year. The country now faces increasing global growth fears and calls for more stimulus measures to boost domestic demand.
