Dave Lapan, a former spokesperson for the US Dept of Defense, has opined that while the latest increase in gas prices is bound to adversely affect some sections of American society, the sacrifice is necessary.

Responding to an op-ed in the WaPo Wednesday, Lapan tweeted that the “increase in gas prices will definitely hurt many low income, working Americans.” However, he added, for the rest of American society, “it’s an inconvenience we can handle.”

Lapan went on to urge people stateside to weigh their gripes over the rising gas prices against “what the people of #Ukraine are enduring, and sacrificing, and overcoming.”

Meta Platforms is reportedly planning to allow users in some countries to call for violence against Russian citizens and for the death of President Putin - in an apparent temporary change to its hate speech policy.

Users will also allegedly be allowed to temporarily call for the death of Belarusian President Lukashenko in a number of European countries, according to internal emails seen by Reuters.

The emails say the calls for violence against Russians are allowed when speaking specifically about the country’s special operation in Ukraine, as this was being used as a proxy for Russia’s military.
