A 21-year-old Ukrainian refugee just made history in Japan 🇺🇦🏆🇯🇵
Danylo Yavhusishyn, known in the ring as Aonishiki Arata, became the first Ukrainian ever to win a major sumo championship after taking the noscript at the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament!
He fled Ukraine during the war and moved to Japan without knowing the language, but in just a few years, he’s risen to the top of one of Japan’s oldest and toughest sports.
Now he’s on track for a promotion to Ozeki, one of sumo’s highest ranks.
Talk about determination, from war refugee to sumo champion.
