I've been asked about the LA wildfire donation scandal.

Here's the truth: it's standard operating procedure. In most nonprofits, only a small fraction of your donation reaches the front lines.

If this qualifies as a scandal, then the entire nonprofit sector is a scandal.

Lawmakers shouldn't treat this as an isolated case; they should treat it as a call to overhaul a broken, opaque system.

The graph below shows the 501(c)(3) grant network for the Barack Obama Foundation. But it could be almost any major nonprofit. They all look like this.

The "Big Three" private philanthropic foundations which dominated much of the 20th century were the Rockefeller Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

From their inception, there has been a revolving door to United States foreign assistance and intelligence agencies. Here's a partial listing:

🔷 Robert A. Lovett – Sec. of Defense under Truman → Rockefeller Foundation trustee

This was also the time that the OSS/CIA was created.

Remember, these foundations are not independent of the US foreign policy officials. The OSS/CIA was recruited from them. Think about it: what better way to get foreign intelligence than people who are already on the ground doing humanitarian missions?

Think of "democracy" the way Marxism envisions a stateless utopia, yet always builds the most state.

These people advocate mass arrests, abolishing universal suffrage, and banning populist parties in order to protect democracy... and they believe it.

Completely different topic. We have a hawk that lives in our yard. I have a love-hate relationship with it because while it’s cool to have a pet hawk, it’s eaten all the rabbits and squirrels.

This morning it hit the window chasing a smaller bird. It’s on the ground but still alive and moving and seems to be improving. It’s standing now. My oldest son has been watching over it all morning.

Poor birdie!

And they will release it in our yard so she can be with her parents again.

I did think she was too small to be that big hawk that lives here...

Update: It is a Cooper's Hawk, it is a juvenile female, and she has a concave injury above her right eye. They are hoping that with some painkillers and steroids that she will bounce back.
