Oh, fun. USGLC removed their "Our Board" page. But I saved it all. I'll add some extra mentions that weren't in the last thread.

The nonprofit Population Services International did not have much in the way of donations but 100% of them went to Democrats.

🧵 Lobbying and Donations of USGLC Companies

Which party receives donations from both USGLC member companies and their employees?

Let's start with Land O'Lakes, which was a surprise recipient of 100 million in USAID money.

The company's donations are split and relatively small, but they do spend an increasing volume of money in lobbying. Amy Klobuchar is the top recipient of funds.

80% of their 2024 employee donations go to Democratic candidates.

🔵 Democratic candidates: $24,250 (80.3%)
🔴 Republican candidates: $1,385 (4.6%)
⚪️ Other — PACs & committees: $4,550 (15.1%)

🚀 Proof of Concept Success!

Last night, I completed a successful PoC that matches federal research awards to actual research outcomes: think papers, press releases, conference talks, and more.

I tested the method on a single major research university and achieved >95% accuracy in identifying whether a research outcome was reasonably expected, and locating public references when they exist.

This bridges the gap between funding and impact, unlocking visibility into the real-world outputs of public spending.

Research awards were the easiest. I will be expanding this to include other, less visible awards, adding other metrics such as impact factor, and releasing a tool soon.

More to come soon : but the foundation is solid, and the potential is huge. 💥

Note also the percent access to electricity was actually slower than many other developing nations, so it’s unclear if the 128B made any impact at all. Here’s India for example.

From one of the USAID pages: 128 billion invested in the African power sector, much of it in solar and other renewables.

In 20 years, the percent of Africans with access to electricity did rise from ~22% to ~43%. However, less than 1% of that is from solar and overall <10% from renewables.

So where did that 128 billion go?
