Time for a bit of database philosophy.

As someone who lives and breathes databases, I think a lot about the nature of data. A database exists to serve data in a way that's actually usable.

I could dump the full PDFs of the Open Society Foundation's 990-PFs right now. Each document is over 100 pages. But I won't... because it would be useless.

Raw data is not the same as useful data. Just handing over hundreds of pages would simply just overwhelm you with noise, not insight. That's the whole point of a database: relevance.

So instead, I'm processing these PDFs with AI... cleaning them, extracting the relevant grant data, merging with EINs, and integrating that into the spreadsheet I’ve already released.
