🌍🇳🇪ECOWAS intends to send a parliamentary committee delegation to Niger to meet with junta leaders, according to Reuters

👥The block's parliament convened on Saturday to discuss further actions in Niger. No decision was made, but the parliament formed a committee planning to meet with the President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, the head of ECOWAS, to get his permission for the trip to Niger.

🇬🇭Specifically, ECOWAS members were to meet in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, on Saturday to discuss how to resolve the crisis in Niger after they approved the deployment of standby forces to restore constitutional order.

💭"The military option seriously considered by ECOWAS is not a war against Niger and its people, but a police operation against those who have taken hostages and their accomplices," commented on a possible intervention by Niger's Foreign Minister Hassumi Massaoudou.

🤷‍♂️The Al-Jazeera publication notes that the bloc leaders still cannot make a joint decision, and the meeting was postponed indefinitely for "technical reasons". It later emerged that the summit cancellation was due to "concerns about the health of detained President Mohamed Bazoum".

🤦‍♂️Despite the self-proclaimed authority rejecting all of the bloc's diplomatic efforts, a decision was made to resend representatives of the committee. Clearly, the community does not give up efforts to resolve everything peacefully - however, does it make sense to negotiate with the junta?

🇺🇸The US announces a new $200 million military aid package for Ukraine

The package includes:
◾️Additional munitions for Patriot air defense systems;
◽️Additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS);
◾️Mine clearing equipment and systems;
◽️155mm and 105mm artillery rounds;
◾️120mm tank ammunition;
◽️Tube-Launched, Optically-Tracked, Wire-Guided (TOW) missiles;
◾️Javelin and other anti-armor systems and rockets;
◽️37 tactical vehicles to tow and haul equipment;
◾️58 water trailers;
◽️Over 12 million rounds of small arms ammunition and grenades;
◾️Demolitions munitions for obstacle clearing; and
◽️Spare parts, maintenance, and other field equipment.

👆It should be noted that this package will utilize assistance previously authorized under Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) for Ukraine that remained after the PDA revaluation process concluded in June.
