🕶 Advent. Day 3 - the city of Popasna, in the Luhansk Oblast

🔥 The battles for the city already began on the first day of the full-scale invasion. The fight was going on for every house and district. Both side suffered heavy losses.

🔫 Unfortunately, the enemy's artillery did its job and thanks to it one of the biggest battles of this war was won by the katsaps. Having broken through the fortified area in this place, the enemy began to infiltrate like a parasite. As a result, Svitlodarsk was lost without significant fighting, and further enemy pressure north of Popasna forced the AFU to withdraw first from Severodonetsk, and then from Lysychansk. "Bakhmut meat grinder" is already a consequence of these events.

🕶 Advent. Day 5 - the center of Mariupol

🔄 The relative estimates of the destruction of Mariupol are greatly exaggerated and they are smaller than in Popasna or Rubizhne, but overall, Mariupol is the leader in terms of destroyed buildings and victims among the civilian population. For example, the southern and northern parts of the city survived quite a bit, but the center, the Azovstal area and the neighborhoods/districts west of the center were destroyed and burned.

🇺🇦 According to various estimates, the city garrison consisted of 4,000 to 8,000 soldiers, of which approximately 1,400 were soldiers of the "Azov" regiment. For the defense of a city with half a million inhabitants, this is a meager figure. Ten times more is needed, but this is precisely the feat of the Mariupol defenders, who did not give up until May 18th, that they were able to do ten times more than they could. Having shown superhuman effort and professionalism in defense planning, our fighters managed to organize an exemplary defense.

🎄 The Christmas Truce of 1914

🍔 Although there was no order for an armistice, about 100,000 French, British and German soldiers participated in an unofficial ceasefire along the entire Western Front. The first armistice began on Christmas Eve, on December 24th, 1914, when German troops began to decorate the trenches suroundings in Ypres, Belgium. Soldiers of both sides received many parcels from home, which, in addition to warm clothes, medicine and letters, contained photos with relatives, Christmas gifts, sweets, cookies, chocolate and even Christmas garlands.

🎁 Soon after, soldiers began walking into the neutral zone and holding meetings, where they exchanged small gifts such as food, tobacco, alcohol, and souvenirs such as buttons and hats. Artillery in the region fell silent that evening. The armistice also allowed the bodies of recently fallen soldiers to be taken for burial behind their frontlines, as they remained on the battlefield for several months.

“I wouldn't miss this unique and strange Christmas for anything. I noticed a German officer — a lieutenant, I think, and, being a bit of a collector, I hinted to him that I fancied some of his buttons... I took out my wire cutters and with a few deft movements took off a couple of his buttons and put them in my pocket. Then I gave him two of mine in exchange ... Then I saw one of my machine gunners, who was an amateur barber in civilian life, cutting the unnaturally long hair of an obedient “Boche” who was kneeling patiently on the ground while the automatic shears cut the hair on the back of his head”

⏩On the Svatovo direction - positional firefights continue on the southern front.

⏩ On the Bakhmut direction - enemy is actively pressing along the Yakovlivka-Soledar-Pidhorodne line. In recent days, the enemy has been successful on the south-west of Yakovlivka, in Bakhmutske and on the outskirts of Pidhorodne. Katsaps took control of buildings in Bakhmutske forest. Active assault on the outskirts of Klishchyivka from the N, S and E directions continues. In Soledar the exact front line is still unknown.
