🔻 Large-scale multinational naval exercises are taking place in the Philippine Sea from August 4 to 12 with the participation of the US, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, Norway, and Spain.
📌 The declared goal is the "implementation of a free and open Indo-Pacific region" and the enhancement of tactical capabilities and strengthening cooperation among the participating fleets.
During the maneuvers, tasks of anti-submarine warfare and aircraft landings on ship decks are planned to be practiced.
🔻 Participants:
🇺🇸 US Navy Carrier Strike Group (CSG) led by the aircraft carrier "George Washington," missile cruiser "Robert Smalls," destroyer "Shoup," amphibious assault ship "America"
🇬🇧 UK Royal Navy CSG led by the aircraft carrier "Prince of Wales," destroyer "Dauntless," frigate "Richmond," fuel supply ship "Tidespring"
🇯🇵 Japanese helicopter carrier "Kaga," destroyer "Teruzuki," submarine
🇦🇺 Australian Navy destroyer "Brisbane"
🇳🇴 Norwegian frigate "Roald Amundsen"
🇪🇸 Spanish frigate "Mendez Nunez."
In total, four squadrons of F-35 fighters (including F-35B and F-35C) are involved in the exercises, making these maneuvers some of the largest in the Asia-Pacific region (APR) in recent years.
It is obvious that they are another show of force against China, especially in light of the growing tensions around Taiwan and the South China Sea. At the same time, the maneuvers coincided with the ongoing joint Russian-Chinese maritime patrol.
🚨 In response, the PLAN sent warships to monitor the progress of the adversary's exercises.
