Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense announced the signing of a major contract with the United States for the purchase of artillery shells. The total cost is 1.3 billion Taiwan dollars. The purchase is scheduled from August 21, 2025, to June 15, 2031, and includes the supply of M232A2 ammunition for 155mm howitzers and M109A2/A5 self-propelled guns in service with the Taiwanese army, as well as for M109A7, which may become Taiwan's next major purchase from the US.

From the air, Eurofighter jets provided protection, while at sea, the German corvette Braunschweig guided the ferry out of Rostock harbour before handing over to other NATO ships further offshore.
This is a clear demonstration of joint coordination across domains – on land, at sea and in the air – as part of Exercise Quadriga.

women starting in 2028
Defense Minister Andris Spruds announced plans to expand the country's armed forces, which include a proposal to draft women into compulsory service. His party intends to present the plan to the government.
If approved, female connoscription could begin as early as 2028. Mandatory service for men aged 18 to 27 was reinstated on January 1, 2024, in response to the war in Ukraine. Currently, women are allowed to serve in the Latvian army voluntarily.

After the Russian attack on the factory in Lviv in March of that year, some of these aircraft are said to have survived and later entered Ukrainian service.
