Bearish bets on dollar hit record

Asset managers increased bearish bets on the dollar to a record high amid speculation slowing US inflation will hasten the end of the Fed's 16-month run of policy tightening.

Institutional investors, including pension funds, insurers and mutual funds, increased their net short position on the greenback by 18% to 568,721 contracts in the week through July 18.

Asset managers boosted dollar net shorts by the most against the euro and pound. At the same time, they cut yen shorts by the most since March 2020.

Amid slowing inflation, the Federal Reserve is expected to raise its key rate by 25 basis points this week but may start cutting it early next year.

India To Launch 7 Singaporean Satellites

According to Business Standard newspaper, the satellites will be launched into orbit using the Indian launch vehicle PSLV-C56.

The launch is scheduled for 06:30 July 30 from the Satish Dhawan Space center on the island of Sriharikota.

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) is joining hands with Brookfield Infrastructure Partners Lp & Digital Realty Trust Inc. in a three-way venture for setting up special purpose vehicles aimed at developing data centres in India.

RIL will hold a 33.33% stake in the SPVs, a joint statement by the three partners said.

The mines ministry has increased focus on exploration of these minerals through Geological Survey of India (GSI) and other agencies, the minister said.

Starting from 2020-21 when there were only 59 projects in critical minerals, these have risen to 122 in FY24.
