Denmark has declared it no longer considers coronavirus a “socially critical” disease and on Friday became the first EU country to lift all its Covid curbs after 548 days.

The Scandinavian country introduced vaccine passports in March 2021 and has been gradually easing restrictions since – as of Friday there will be no more masks or vaccine passports and people will return to offices.

With around 500 daily Covid cases and a reproduction rate of 0.7 Danish authorities say they have the virus under control – 73% of the nation are fully vaccinated and 96% of those are aged 65 and over.
