According to the mayor of Mestia, Kakha Zhorzholiani, electricity consumption in the municipality is at its peak now and one of the main reasons for this is... mining. According to him, due to the increase in consumption, power lines and equipment are damaged, which leads to emergency shutdowns. Over the past days, the electricity in the area has already been turned off 10 times, on one of the days there were no electricity for more than 12 hours.
“Unfortunately miners are not regulated by law and that is why we are in this situation. The solution is to reduce electricity consumption, turn off what is not used for homes,” the mayor asked residents.
ℹ️ Individuals in Mestia currently receive electricity for free, but this is actively used by miners. The Ministry of Economy and Energo-Pro Georgia started work on a tariff setting system in this region, but the issue has not been resolved yet.

The disadvantaged situation of youth was exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-21.
