🌾❌ All grain mills in Georgia have suspended their work due to an increase in the export duty on wheat from Russia.

This was stated by the director of the Association of Grain and Flour Producers Levan Silagava.
"The situation of the year before last is repeating. The reason is again in the export duty on wheat from Russia. This creates the conditions for an aggressive import of flour," he said. In 2023, Russia raised prices for wheat exports + according to the current Georgian legislation, the tax on flour imports is zero, and the tax on wheat imports is floating and today is $120 per ton. Georgia consumes up to 650 thousand tons of wheat per year. The country provides itself with only 15% of wheat. The rest is imports, more than 91.4% of which comes from Russia.
📈 In contrast to wheat imports, flour purchases have increased significantly in recent months. Compared to last year, the volume of imports increased by 704.8%, and by value - by 922.5%, which represents a record growth rate of flour imports. According to statistics, Russia is also the main importer of flour here, as is the case with wheat. This market accounts for almost 99% of all imports.
