Hymn to Tiw I made based on a hymn to Ares.

Tiw, exceeding in strength, one-handed, sword-bearer, steadfast-god, weapon-blesser, upholder of order, harnessed in armor, strong of arm, unwearying, mighty with the spear, defender of Osgeard, god of warlike Victory, son of the dark one, enemy of the fen-strider, leader of righteous men, god of the Allthing, you who courageously gave your hand for cosmic order; hear me, helper of men, giver of victory! Shed down a kindly ray from above upon my life, and strength of war, that I may be able to drive away bitter cowardice from my head and crush down the deceitful impulses of my soul. Restrain also the keen fury of my heart which provokes me to tread the ways of blood-curdling strife. Rather, blessed one, give me boldness to abide within the harmless laws of peace, avoiding strife and hatred and the violent fiends of death.

Hama-Agni. The axis mundi personified, deliverer of prayers.

Something interesting my friend Malcolm and I were talking about, Agni shares a lot of traits with Heimdallr.

Agni is a Vedic God who protects the household and so is Heimdallr. Heimdallr overall is a God associated with borders.

Agni brings offerings to the Gods through fire, Heimdallr may deliver prayers to Asgard since there is an emphasis on his hearing being so well that he can hear every blade of grass grow.

Heimdallr doesn’t have any connections with fire, but he is said to be the personification of Yggdrasil itself.

In the Puranas, Shiva is born from the axis mundi, the center of the cosmos which is conceptualized as a fiery pillar, the pillar being Agni himself.

So both are personifications of the pillar of the universe.

Both are associated with goats

Heimdallr is also said to be the whitest, or shiniest of the Gods. I’m wondering if that could be remnant of his IE association with fire

Father of Fosite
Son of Woden
Love of Nóþe

Loved by all, you are harkened to and upheld for who you are, for being a great warrior, and for being of highborn stock, the son of the King and Queen of Heaven.
Struck and killed by your brother who was bewitched.
You fare to the land of the dead, then come back in the summertime to fill our lives with happiness and warmth.
In this new tide we now see your brow.
The cold bite of winter is fading.
Your light shines on Mother Earth,
May your light shine from Heaven onto us so that we may be filled with warm fellowship.
Lend me your blessings beloved Lord,
So that I too may be a light in the lives of my loved ones, like how you are a light in mine.
Hail to you Balder

I’ve seen a few people compare Heimdallr to Kartikeya, but the Vedic deity Heimdallr most closely resembles is Agni.

Heimdallr serves as a connection between the Gods and Midgard, through the Bifröst. Agni, likewise, serves as a messenger and brings all offerings to the Gods through fire.
In the Gylfaginning, Heimdallr is attested as having unmatched vision and hearing; he can hear grass growing and the wool growing on a sheep. He would also be able to hear every prayer. As fire is used in every ritual, Agni sees all things, and protects every hearth.
The Ayurveda associates Agni with copper, and according to the Landnamabók, each temple goði was to have a hlautbolli made of copper.

Another shared role is as a bringer of knowledge. In the Rígsþula, after siring the three classes of humans, Rígr (who is introduced as Heimdallr in the prose introduction) returns to teach a boy the runes. One of Agni’s epithets is Jataveda; he who knows all.

Etymologically, Heimdallr combines Heim (world) and -dallr, which likely means bright/radiant, cognate to Old English deall (bright/eminent). In both Eddas, Heimdallr is attested as the whitest of the Gods.
One of Agni’s noscripts is Jwalana; glowing.

Another noscript of Heimdallr is Vindlér; wind-protector(?). Agni’s noscripts include Vahni; travels with wind, and Vayusaka; friend of the wind. Heimdallr’s noscript Gullintanni, gold-teeth, may refer to flames.

In the Lokasenna, Loki tells us Heimdallr has a “muddy back” from standing guard constantly, and in the Völuspa, Yggdrasil is mired in white mud. Heimdallr’s association with Yggdrasil fits with Agni’s role as the cosmic pillar at the axis of the universe, linking Heaven and Earth, and bringing a higher level of consciousness.

And when Odin hangs from Yggdrasil, he gains divine knowledge of the universe…and the runes. Remember, in the Rígsþula, Heimdallr as Rígr gives the runes to humanity.

Finally, Agni’s vahana is an urial ram, and in the Skáldskaparmál, Heimdallr is heavily associated with rams. In the Gylfaginning, one of Heimdallr’s noscripts is Hallinskiði; sloping-horned.

Image from the late 1800's shows "a Norwegian Kven sacrificing to 'Tapio' - the Finnish/Karelian god of the forest. Kvens are descendants of Finns who moved to Norway during the 1500s and 1600s. These Finns came primarily from the Savo region (south-east of Finland) and they kept their beliefs and culture largely intact to the modern day."

Tonight is the full moon of Easter, and for my Norse kinsmen, Sigrblot. Be sure to light a candle, say a prayer have a drink, or have a nice meal in honor of the Goddess Eostre, or in honor of the Vanir and Othin for overtaking winter.
Hail Eostre! Hail the Gods!

I’ve already made a prayer for Eostre for those celebrating Eosturmonath, so here’s a prayer I made based on a Rigvedic hymn to Rudra to anyone celebrating Sigrblot.

1 What shall we pray to Othin, strong, most bounteous, excellently wise, that shall be dearest to his heart?
2 That Frigg may grant the grace of the Allfather to our folk, our kindred, Our cattle and our offspring;
3 That Othin and the whole of the Aesir may remember us.
4 To Othin Lord of sacrifice, of Galdr and medicines, We pray for happiness, health and strength.
5 His eye shines brightly like the Sun, radiant as bright gold is he. The holy king of Heaven.
6 May he grant health into our steeds, wellbeing to our rams and crops, To men, to women, and to kine.
7 Oh Valfather, set thou upon us the glory of a hundred men, The great renown of mighty lords.
8 Let not what is deadly, nor those who trouble holy law, hinder us.
9 Hail the Æsir and Vanir!
May you bless us with holy light and life on the face of the Earth Mother!

Prayer to Thunor I made based on a Rigvedic Hymn to Indra.

1 Come, Thunor, and delight thee with these offerings, guardian of Middle-Earth, mighty in thy strength.
2 To the Thundering Lord, we offer drinks, and worship thee.
3 Oh Love of Sibbe, fair of cheek, red of beard, rejoice thee in our hailings, here with these drink-offerings.
4 Prayers have outpoured themselves to thee, Thunor, the strong, and warding Lord.
5 Send to us great might and strength,
Oh War-God, worthy of our wish.
6 Oh Slayer of thursar, strike ill-willed beings with your mighty hammer, and steadfastly ride your chariot, heavenly hallower.
7 Give us, Son of Earth, much wisdom, and many blessings, life-long.
8 Grant us high fame, Son of Grim, and help us in our time of need.
9 We hail thee with songs, the one who cometh to our aid, we call upon Thunor, the friend of mankind.
10 To the Hammer-Holder, in your fastness, and fortress, may you reign forever!

Prayer to Skaði I made based on a hymn to Artemis.

Skaði, Daughter of Thjazi, the Goddess who delights in arrows, bride of Njörðr.
She punishes Loki with the serpent hanging high.
She deals justice swiftly with the Æsir, for the murder of beloved Baldr, God of beauty and light.
Blessed shining bride of the Æsir, guard my land against draugr, and evil wights alike.
Aim true with your arrows, Huntress.
I hail to you, Wolf-Goddess, in my praise, and to all Disir as well.

Prayer to Frigg I made based on a Homeric hymn to Hera.

I speak of silver-throned Frigg.
You are the Queen of Heaven, and mankind.
Surpassing all in beauty, you are the wife of Óðinn, and the mother of beloved Baldr.
You are the glorious dis whom all the blessed throughout Miðgarðr, and Ásgarðr hail, and honour.
Óðinn himself thrills greatly at the sight of his queen.
Bless and guard our children dweller of Fensalir.
Ward over the love between our kin.
Hail to you Frigg!

Prayer to Éagor I made based on a Homeric hymn to Poseidon.
I posted the Norse version on my Facebook page.

I begin to speak about Éagor, the great sea-ettin, master of Swiftþén and Fȳrmetod.
God of the deep who is also the husband of Ran, and eldfather of Hama.
A great brewing cauldron the mighty Þunor bestowed unto you.
Oh shaker of the waves, great host and brewer of the Gods!
Hail, Éagor, God of the Sea, dark-haired lord! Oh blessed one, bless our brews, make us good hosts, be kindly in heart and spare those who fare in ships from your mighty jaws!
