— "An Orthodox Christian church will be built on the Philippine island of Tubabao, in memory of Russian refugees, who stayed on the island for three years together with their leader, St. John of Shanghai and San Fransisco. 

Russians who had come to Shanghai to escape the communist regime in Russia after the 1917 revolution, later had to flee China, in 1949, as Chinese communist troops were approaching the city. A large group of 5000 refugees arrived in the Philippines. They were taken to Tubabao where they lived in tents for 27 months."
