4️⃣ Push /pʊʃ/ [transitive]

📖 to encourage or force someone to do something or to work hard

🏷 Encourage your kids to try new things, but try not to push them too hard.
🏷 He’s been pushing himself too hard, working 12-hour days.

5️⃣ Leave sth to/ with sb | verb [transitive]

📖 to let someone else decide something or be responsible for something

🏷 Leave it to me. I’ll make sure it gets posted.
🏷 Leave it with me, I’ll fix it for you.
🏷 She leaves it to the reader to draw their own conclusions.

6️⃣ make /meɪk/ verb [transitive]

📖🅰️ used to say what you have calculated a number to be

Common verbs with less familiar meanings

7️⃣ bring /brɪŋ/ verb (past tense and past participle brought /brɔːt$

📖 to cause someone or something to reach a particular state or condition

🏷 The trial was swiftly brought to an end.
🏷 It was the war that first brought him to power (=made him have power over a country).
🏷 Bring the sauce to the boil (=heat it until it boils).


8️⃣ Come in/ with

📖 [always + adverb/preposition] to be produced or sold with particular features

🏷 This particular sofa comes in four different colours.
🏷 Cats come in many shapes and sizes.
🏷 The computer comes complete with software and games.


9️⃣ Do for sb/ sth verb [intransitive, transitive not in progressive]

📖 used to say that something will be enough or be acceptable

🏷 A few sandwiches will do me for lunch.
🏷 It won’t do (=it is not acceptable) to say that the situation couldn’t have been avoided.
