Infinitive

Infinitive is the base form of the verb which isn't related to any specific tense.

Functions of infinitive!

✔️ As the subject of the sentence:
To read is my favorite hobby.

✔️ As the object of the sentence:
She wants to travel the world.

✔️ After adjective:
It is important to stay focused during the exam.

✔️ To show the purpose of the action:
He studied hard to pass the exam.

✔️ After object pronouns and nouns referring to a person:
I told sara to call me.
I want him to help me.


Types of infinitive!

1) Full infinitive (to + base verb)
Ex: she wants a book to read.

2) Bare infinitive (base verb without to)
He must go now.


The other forms of infinitive!

Passive voice of simple infinitive (to be + past participle)
👉 Is used when the action is performed on the subject rather than by the subject.
Ex: The homework needs to be completed by her tomorrow.


Perfect infinitive (to + have + past participle)
👉 Is used to indicate an action that was completed before another action or point in time.
Ex: She seems to have finished her work.


The passive form of prefect infinitive (to + have + been + past participle)
👉 This form is used to describe an action that was completed in the past, focusing on the subject being acted upon.
Ex: She is happy to have been given the award.


Simple Continuous infinitive (to be + present participle)
👉 Indicates an ongoing action or state, often used to express something happening around the present or a specific time.
Ex: she seems to be crying.


Perfect continuous infinitive (to + have + been + present participle)
👉 Is used to describe an ongoing action that started in the past and continues up to a certain point, often with an emphasis on the duration.
Ex: She is ecstatic to have been studying English.
