The Flying Bat Nebula, is caught in this cosmic scene toward the royal constellation Cepheus. Composed with 55 hours of narrowband image data. Discovered in 2011 by French astro-imager Nicolas Outters. The Nebula's alluring bipolar shape is distinguished here by the telltale blue-green emission from doubly ionized oxygen atoms. Though apparently completely surrounded by the reddish hydrogen emission region Sh2-129, the true distance and nature of the nebula have been difficult to determine.

Physicists Just Confirmed The Upper Limit For The Speed of Sound in The Universe
Einstein's theory of special relativity gave us the speed limit of the Universe - that of light in a vacuum. But the absolute top speed of sound, through any medium, has been somewhat trickier to constrain.

8 years ago today, the space shuttle Endeavour began its last mission. A slow 12 mile crawl through the streets of Los Angeles on a 160-wheeled carrier. Tardigrades, often called water bears, are near-microscopic creatures that can range from 0.05 mm to 1.2 mm in length. They have eight legs with four to eight claws on each.
They can survive just about anywhere, including outer space, can withstand temperatures down to -200°C and up to 148.9°C, and have survived five mass extinctions over the course of around half a billion years.
