Here is an English translation of what we fear will be the final letter from Alfredo Cospito, the Italian anarchist on hunger strike against a dehumanizing regime of permanent solitary confinement:

https://illwill.com/last-letter

"I am convinced that my death will put a stop to this regime, and that the 750 people who have been subjected to it for decades will be able to live a life worth living, whatever else they have done.

"I love life, I am a happy man, I would not trade my life for anyone else's. And it is precisely because I love it, that I cannot accept this hopeless non-life.

"Thank you comrades, for all your love.

"Always for anarchy.

"Never bend."

Why is the fight against Cop City important?

During the George Floyd rebellion of 2020, for the first time it became possible to speak of police abolition as a viable proposal for how to break the cycle of violence that poverty and police militarization impose on communities. Yet every effort to “defund the police” via institutional means hit a dead end. Under Biden, the Democratic Party doubled down on unconditional support for police. If there is any hope of limiting the continuous expansion of police infrastructure and state violence, grassroots movements and direct action will have to show the way.

That goes double for climate change. Practically everyone agrees that humanity is on a collision course with ecological disaster, but institutional reforms have utterly failed. The movement in Atlanta offers a glimpse of what it would take to defend our communities from the unbridled profiteering and repression that are forcing the catastrophe on us all.

Elections, Fascism, and Popular Resistance in #Brazil

https://crimethinc.com/exworker91

In Brazil, a three-way contest has unfolded between the far right in the streets, the institutional electoral left in the halls of power, and autonomous radical movements caught between them. When authoritarian president Jair Bolsonaro was narrowly defeated at the polls in October, a popular right-wing movement emerged to contest the election results, culminating in a protest in which Bolsonaro supporters stormed government buildings in the capital of Brasilia. In the latest episode of our podcast, we explore these events and their implications around the world.

Disasters of State: On the Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria

https://crimethinc.com/Earthquake2023

These two texts offer different vantage points on the ways that the Turkish and Syrian governments not only failed to protect their subjects but used this catastrophe as an opportunity to consolidate power and target their adversaries via neglect, blockading, and even bombing.

We must understand both the earthquakes and the state as aspects of the same catastrophe and take action against both of them.

Today is the anniversary of the outbreak of the revolt that created the Paris Commune in 1871. You can read about it here:

https://crimethinc.com/arch18

One of the protagonists in the events was Louise Michel, who became one of the most famous anarchists of her time after surviving a decade's exile in a prison colony in the South Pacific.

https://crimethinc.com/2017/03/18/18-martiou-1871-e-gennese-tes-parisines-kommounas

Louise Michel Square, at the foot of the hill of Montmartre, where Louise Michel participated in the events that catalyzed the Paris Commune on March 18, 1871. (In the background, the hill is surmounted by the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, built by reactionary religious authorities to "expiate the sins of the Commune.")

The sign for the park also displays our classic "Community Watch Area: Police not Welcome" sticker.
