Some goods survived this fire, however, including several boxes of books and journals that had been returned by stores and distributors or that were too damaged to be sold as brand new. Ironically, the damage that they had sustained protected them, as we didn't bother to keep them on hand for mailorder.

To clear space for more books, posters, stickers, and zines, we’re offering these less-than-perfect books and (long out of print) journals at fire sale prices, without the scent of flames attached.

The anarchists we correspond with in Sudan report that the Rapid Support Forces—a brutal Russia-backed militia that is attempting to carry out a coup—now control the presidential palace, Khartoum International Airport, and Marawi Military Airport, and clashes are still ongoing.

Over the past year and a half, powerful social movements have fought continuously against the military dictatorship in Sudan. According to the anarchists there, if the Rapid Support Forces succeed in taking power, the situation in #Sudan—which has already been severe—will be more akin to the regime of the Taliban in Afghanistan.

In Praise of Those Who Leak

For Steal Something from Work Day 2023, we focus on a particular kind of workplace theft: the leak.

In the information age, knowledge is power. The circulation of classified information is integral to the repressive institutions that maintain the prevailing order.

The less that these institutions can trust each other and their own employees, the harder it becomes for them to respond rapidly and coordinate. If information is the blood in the bloodstream of the security state, persistent leaks coagulate that blood.

So here is our challenge to you, begrudging employee. The same capitalist economy that keeps you chained to your work station runs on the information that passes before your eyes every day.

At some point, something may cross your field of vision that could be useful to someone engaged in the struggle for a better world. If you see something—say something.

Far-right nationalists like Donald Trump later attempted to appropriate the rhetoric of the reformist elements of the movement against capitalist globalization, but the core of the movement was always dedicated to abolishing all forms of hierarchy. Nationalists have never done anything to halt the ravages of capitalism—they only seek to pit people against each other in order to distract from violence that the ruling class is inflicting on all of us. Who are the Rapid Support Forces, the paramilitary forces who have provoked an escalating civil war with the Sudanese government?

Known as the Janjawids, these mercenaries accumulated arms, funds, and recruits as shock troops in conflicts throughout the region. Sudanese dictator Omar Al-Bashir was one of their chief funders. They began by crushing a rebellion in the western region of Darfur and went on to play a role in violence in Yemen and elsewhere. In 2019, after demonstrators successfully toppled Al-Bashir, the Rapid Support Forces carried out a massacre to regain control of the capital, #Khartoum.

Now the Rapid Support Forces are fighting against the Sudanese military, at great cost to ordinary people in Sudan.

The militarization of a society does not benefit anyone in the long run, not even the rulers.

According to our Sudanese contacts, clashes are continuing in #Sudan after an attempt to call a 24-hour truce in the civil war between the military and the Rapid Support Forces broke down within the first hour.

Anarchists in Sudan have played a consistent role in the demonstrations against the military dictatorship that took power in October 2021. Today, following a favorable decision in the Italian Constitutional Court yesterday, Alfredo Cospito ended his incredible 180-day hunger strike. This is bittersweet, as he has sustained permanent damage after so much time without sustenance. But his hunger strike exerted considerable pressure against the solitary confinement regime of the Italian prison system. We honor his courage and we are grateful that he is still among the living.
