There is such a thing as anarchism, which is to say, opposition to all forms of oppressive power—there is such a thing as capitalism, which is to say, a system in which a few people accumulate oppressive power over everyone else through a process of market competition—but there is no such thing as "anarcho"-capitalism.

The newly elected president of Argentina, Javier Milei, has described himself as an "anarcho-capitalist." He praises Trump, opposes abortion, and plans to accelerate neoliberal austerity to nightmare proportions.

Anarchists have always opposed capitalism and all politicians. So-called anarcho-capitalists draw on popular resentment of state power to legitimize wealth inequalities. No "liberty" is possible while a few rich people call all the shots.

An Argentinian anarchist tradition has organized against capitalism and state power for well over a century. We echo their slogan from the 2001 uprising:

We are relieved to hear that there may be a ceasefire in Palestine in which both sides will release some hostages.

Even if the ceasefire does take place, Benjamin Netanyahu maintains that he is determined to resume killing as soon as possible. 1200 Israeli casualties and over 14,000 Palestinian casualties—almost half of them children—are not enough for him.

It's up to us to intensify the pressure on arms profiteers, warmongers, and the US government which is making this catastrophe possible. If we do, perhaps we could block the resumption of hostilities.

This ceasefire shows it is possible for them to stop killing, but it's up to us to make them do so.

In the long run, the only way to make anyone safe in the region will be to put an end to the oppression of Palestinians.

On April 19, 2023, a Russian anarchist named Dmitry Petrov was killed in battle near Bakhmut, Ukraine. In this episode of our podcast, we offer a eulogy remembering Dmitry.

Dmitry was an uncompromising anarchist fighter who participated in an unbelievable amount of radical activity around the region. His extraordinary life spanned anarchist organizing as a teenager in Moscow; environmental defense, radical unionism, and refugee solidarity activism; years of underground direct action against police, military, and profiteers from gentrification; participating in the Maidan protests in Ukraine, an uprising against dictatorship in Belarus, and the struggle against the Islamic State in Rojava; co-founding the Anarcho-Communist Combat Organization; and finally taking up arms against Russian imperialism in Ukraine.
