Ein Staatsstreich in Israel? (2023)

https://crimethinc.com/2023/03/27/ein-staatsstreich-in-israel-die-bittere-ernte-des-kolonialismus-1

January 28 is the birthday of our friend Jen Angel, who passed away last year. Her life stands as a testimony to how much a single person can accomplish in the fields of publishing and organizing just by patiently, persistently applying herself to projects and supporting those around her.

Here is the eulogy we wrote about Jen's life:

https://crimethinc.com/jenangel

A year ago, on her 48th birthday, Jen posted these lines from Mary Oliver:

"Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?”

Regarding the so-called "border crisis"—

As we wrote in 2020, in "The Insidious Workings of the Political Ratchet,"

"The US two-party system functions like a ratchet, with the Republican Party steadily pulling public policy and discourse to the right while Democrats, seeking to acquire power by chasing the political center, serve as a mechanism that prevents policy and discourse from shifting back."

https://crimethinc.com/theratchet

We see this playing out right now as Republicans push for more authoritarian border policies with the collusion of various centrists.

The "border crisis" is a manufactured emergency. Yes, people are fleeing to the US and Europe from wars, oppressive regimes, and disaster zones—and both capitalism in general and US foreign policy in particular contribute to creating those. But the same billionaires and politicians who are wringing their hands about undocumented immigration are also bewailing declining birth rates, fearing that those will diminish their access to cheap labor.

Over 12 million people in the US are undocumented. Calls for tighter border controls are chiefly about increasing the pressure on these vulnerable workers in order to exploit them more aggressively. What's at stake is how much violence they face, not whether the economy can do without them.

Capitalists have no intention of paying a cent more for labor. The function of political posturing about the "border crisis" is to distract us from capitalist profiteering and to create a rationale for more state violence that will target more and more of us, not just the undocumented.

The solution to our problems is not xenophobia. It is solidarity across the lines of citizenship and privilege. If we do not stand up for the humanity of those who are excluded and oppressed today, we will find ourselves on the wrong side of the walls of tomorrow.

Yesterday, during a protest against Argentina's new "anarcho"-capitalist president in front of the congress building in Buenos Aires, we saw one police officer wearing a "don't tread on me" insignia in imitation of fascists in the United States.

There's no such thing as "anarcho-capitalism." Anarchists are opposed to the state; "anarcho"-capitalists are just capitalists who oppose state regulation of the economy when it is inconvenient for them, but support and depend on the violence of the state.

Solidarity with those in Argentina fighting against capitalism, fascism, police, the state, and so-called "anarcho"-capitalists.

Today, the billionaire Sebastián Piñera died in a helicopter crash. His policies while president of Chile contributed to the desperation that ultimately provoked the uprising of 2019.

As Milton Friedman said, “There’s no such thing as a free helicopter ride!”

The new episode of the Ex-Worker podcast is up!

https://crimethinc.com/exworker105

It's an audio version of "Don’t Stop: Continuing the Fight Against Cop City," our most recent article chronicling the ongoing movement to #StopCopCity in Atlanta.

This report traces the activities of the movement to defend the Weelaunee Forest from June to December 2023, discussing the relationship between clandestine direct action and public organizing, evaluating the Block Cop City march in November, and exploring the movement's strategic prospects from here.

Stopping the Cop Cities Countrywide

https://crimethinc.com/copcities

Does the movement to #StopCopCity represent a reproducible strategy by which to halt the expansion of the police-industrial complex?

We review some of the other struggles against police militarization facilities around the United States—present a report from a protest on February 5 that interrupted the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a police facility in Lacey, Washington—and share an incomplete list of other such proposed facilities around the country.
