If the FBI Approaches You to Become an Informant
An FAQ: What You Need to Know

https://crimethinc.com/InformantFAQ

Federal agents approach you. Perhaps they just ask a couple offhand questions; perhaps they have a deal to propose. They might tell you they are trying to help you; they might tell you that you are in a lot of trouble and it will just get worse unless you cooperate with them; they might tell you that they need your help to prevent something terrible from happening. But whatever they say, you can’t be sure what their real agenda is or what they’re trying to learn.

Whether you’ve already been approached for interrogation or you simply want to be prepared for the possibility, this FAQ answers all the questions you might have.

Police in Atlanta executed three house raids this morning and have announced that they are charging one arrestee with arson in connection with the movement to #StopCopCity.

This is a good time to review best practices in the event of a police visit to your own home:

This primer covers what to do if representatives of any law enforcement agency visit your home—including questioning, searches, warrants, subpoenas, and more.

Whoever you are, whatever you're doing, it's always a good idea to brush up on this stuff.

https://crimethinc.com/2024/02/08/no-hay-tal-cosa-como-paseo-de-helicoptero-gratis-declaracion-sobre-la-muerte-de-sebastian-pinera

https://crimethinc.com/2023/11/03/strategien-fur-die-palastina-solidaritat-die-erweiterung-des-instrumentariums-von-forderungen-zu-direkten-aktionen

Human Rights Discourse Has Failed to Stop the Genocide in Gaza

https://crimethinc.com/GazaGenocide

Four months into the assault on Gaza, the Israeli military has forced over a million refugees to the edge of the Egyptian border and is now bombing them while threatening to mount a ground assault against them.

Jonathan Pollak, a longtime participant in Anarchists Against the Wall and other anti-colonial solidarity efforts, explains why we should not look to international institutions or protest movements within Israeli society to put a stop to the genocide in Gaza and calls on ordinary people to take action.

Today marks four years since the passing of Aragorn!, a tireless polemicist and curator of anarchist infrastructure.

In this elegy, we explored the ways that his legacy challenges us, concluding with remembrances from comrades who shared some of his journey.

You can also read this interview conducted in summer 2018, in which he recounts his childhood in Grand Rapids, his youth in the hardcore scene, his introduction to anarchism, the motivations that drove him, and what it means to commit oneself to a life against the grain—traversing four decades of anarchist history.

Notes on Love

On a day often filled with consumerism and shallow romanticism, this manifesto from a comrade in New York City explores love as a foundation for militancy—a means of both resisting and redeeming.

Дискурс прав человека не смог остановить геноцид в секторе Газа

Анархист из Яффо о необходимости антиколониальной стратегии для освобождения

https://crimethinc.com/2024/02/13/diskurs-prav-chielovieka-nie-smogh-ostanovit-ghienotsid-v-siektorie-gaza-anarkhist-iz-iaffo-o-nieobkhodimosti-antikolonialnoi-stratieghii-dlia-osvobozhdieniia-1

"Love is a quality of attention, a sensitivity to the world and everything that is possible in it. When we fight on the basis of what we love, rather than in service of ideology or cowardice, we open ourselves to serve as a channel through which everything beautiful in the world can defend itself. To choose love is to choose to keep feeling the blows when others are under attack—everyone facing felony charges, everyone threatened with deportation, all the rivers and animals and plants that sustain us despite all the violence inflicted upon them. Love is not reducible to peace."

As Egypt builds a five-meter-high concrete wall to seal off a five-square-kilometer area along the Gaza border, we cannot help but think of the "no-go zone" on the border of Poland and Belarus, in which thousands of refugees have been enclosed over a period of years, trapped between countries, left to die.

https://crimethinc.com/NoBordersTeam

Since 2021, the government of Belarus has used thousands of refugees displaced by wars in Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Ethiopia, and elsewhere to exert pressure on the European Union. EU governments have left these refugees in limbo between two militarized borders, establishing a restricted zone so that observers cannot see them die.

The majority of the inhabitants of Gaza were already refugees from other parts of Palestine. The world has turned a blind eye to Israeli ethnic cleansing in Gaza. If we permit them to complete that process by forcing the survivors into a containment zone across the Egyptian border, it will set a precedent that will be repeated elsewhere.

Russian opposition politician Aleksei Navalny has died in prison, presumably murdered on the orders of Vladimir Putin.

In the run-up to the rigged Russian elections this March, the puppet opposition figure Boris Nadezhdin became a rallying point for genuine anti-war sentiment and subsequently began to act in defiance of the Kremlin—not unlike how Yevgeny Prigozhin began as Putin's lackey but eventually struck out on his own. In this context, Putin likely feels that he cannot afford to permit any opposition figure to remain alive.

Navalny himself did not represent the kind of alternative to Putin we desire. As a Russian anarchist put it a couple years ago,

"Navalny is an opportunistic ultra-nationalist bigot of a politician who paints himself as a populist using a narrative of anti-corruption politics that would only prop up a different batch of oligarchs."

Still, the protests when Navalny was arrested in 2021 were arguably one of the last expressions of the kind of mass resistance that could have prevented the invasion of Ukraine:

(See attached video.)

The recent events in Russia show that when authoritarians like Putin or Donald Trump gain power, it is only the beginning of the bloodshed.

But the tendency to rally around opposition figures rather than developing horizontal networks of resistance is part of the problem.

“Every leader kills people, including my leader. Every leader kills people. Some kill more than others. Leadership requires killing people.”

-Tucker Carlson

Liberal outrage over Carlson saying this to excuse Vladimir Putin—immediately before Putin had Alexei Navalny killed—is beside the point. Supporters of Carlson, Putin, and Donald Trump admire killers. Liberals are only offering a more milquetoast version of the same vertical political model. This puts them at a disadvantage today.

The anarchist alternative is to seek to distribute agency horizontally: not to worship leaders and glorify the state and its violence, but to become capable of self-determination, making it impossible for anyone to impose systematic violence through the state. In the long run, this is the only real alternative to authoritarianism.

"Leadership is a social disorder in which the majority of participants in a group fail to take initiative or think critically about their actions. As long as we understand agency as a property of specific individuals rather than a relationship between people, we will always be dependent on leaders—and at their mercy. Truly exemplary leaders are as dangerous as the obviously corrupt, in that all their praiseworthy qualities only reinforce their status and others’ deference, not to mention the legitimacy of leadership itself."

"After all these years, it still seems to us that revolution is not simply a matter of resistance, but of changing the ways we relate: to each other, to our own lives, to the world we otherwise take for granted. We maintain that the processes of experimentation and insurrection cannot be separated. It is as pressing to interrupt the received routines of this society—yes, even our conventional relationship to bicycles—as it is to destroy the means by which our rulers hold power. In fact, these are one and the same: one must plot a surprise party the way one would strategize for an attack, and vice versa. We should stand up to our oppressors the way we would sit down to a feast."
