What is violence?

Is it tossing a tear gas canister back to the mercenaries who shot it at you?

Is it blowing a whistle at bounty hunters who are trying to abduct someone?

Perhaps, rather than asking whether an action is "violent," we should ask—

Does it perpetrate oppression? Or interrupt it?

Some people have described the movement against police and white supremacy that emerged into the public eye in May 2020 as a "failure" because it didn't win legislative changes.

But the Twin Cities have been able to stand up to ICE because of networks that developed at that time.

Changing a system that exists to perpetrate oppression is the work of decades. What is needed is not a minor reform that can be implemented by politicians, but the kind of structural change that requires long-term grassroots struggle.

Filter Blockades

A Tactic from the Twin Cities to Fight ICE and Defend Your Neighborhood

https://crimethinc.com/filterblockades

Filter blockades are a simple and effective way to resist the occupation of our communities. All you need is a few determined friends or neighbors and some widely available materials. The goal is to slow traffic, without fully blocking it, in order to identify potential ICE vehicles. The more filter blockades, the more effective the strategy becomes.

Here, we present a guide to maintaining filter blockades, share accounts from filter blockades in the Twin Cities this past week, and conclude with a broader look at the history and potential of the model.

Basic Banalities Concerning the January 31 Demonstration in Turin

Reflections on Conflict Following a Night of Street Fighting in Italy

https://crimethinc.com/Turin2026

On December 18, 2025, police evicted the historic Askatasuna social center in Turin, which had been squatted since 1996. A call circulated for a demonstration in response on January 31.

Newspapers report that 50,000 people took the streets. In the street where Askatasuna was located, clashes with the police continued for several hours—an intensity of confrontation that is extraordinary in Italy today.

Something is changing in Italy. The pro-Palestinian movement that erupted in support of the flotillas that sailed for Gaza in fall 2025 drew millions of participants into the streets, including a new generation that had not previously participated in direct action. The events in Turin last month show that this momentum has not abated. While authoritarianism is gaining power all around the world, we are also seeing a rising desire to revolt.

Today marks one month since ICE mercenary Jonathan Ross murdered Renee Good.

It was not the first public execution ICE carried out. But because rapid responders caught it on film, there can be no question about what happened—and because angry locals forced ICE to withdraw afterwards, there can be no question about whether it was a tragedy.

Resisting makes us safer.

https://crimethinc.com/2026/02/07/quelques-banalites-concernant-la-manifestation-du-31-janvier-a-turin-reflexion-sur-le-conflit-a-partir-dune-nuit-demeute-a-turin
