We are a rebel alliance—a decentralized network pledged to anonymous collective action—a breakout from the prisons of our age. We strive to reinvent our lives and our world according to the principles of self-determination and mutual aid.

We've prepared a zine version of "Beneath the Concrete, the Forest," our collection of accounts from the defense of the Atlanta Forest. This is an inspiring snapshot of a thriving movement against police, gentrification, and ecocide.

Once upon a time, in another century, we used to release records for politicized hardcore bands like Zegota and Catharsis. You can download those here, free:

https://crimethinc.bandcamp.com

This December, Catharsis will be playing a memorial show in memory of John Rivera, a fixture in the North Carolina hardcore scene. This show is taking place at the express wish of John, who passed away earlier this month.

Rest in Peace.

Six months into the invasion of Ukraine, we present an interview with the Anarcho-Communist Combat Organization, a clandestine group promoting anti-war sabotage in Russia.

https://crimethinc.com/BOAK

Over the months since the first wave of anti-war protests were crushed, resistance has assumed new forms.

In this interview, they describe how they see their predecessors in the history of anarchist movements, how the situation in Russia deteriorated to such an extent that it was possible to invade Ukraine, and what kind of organizing is possible under the prevailing conditions. We also asked them to go into detail about their operational protocol, in case this may one day be useful for anarchists elsewhere who may be compelled to adopt similar strategies as state repression intensifies around the world.

https://crimethinc.com/2022/08/22/rossiia-boievaia-orghanizatsiia-anarkho-kommunistov-intierviu-s-podpolnoi-anarkhistskoi-ghruppoi

As Biden grabs headlines for debt forgiveness, it's a great time to read David Graeber's Debt: The First 5000 Years.

https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/english/currentstudents/undergraduate/modules/fulllist/special/statesofdamage/syllabus201516/graeber-debt_the_first_5000_years.pdf

Graeber argues that capitalism is founded on "the sacred principle that we must all pay our debts"—a principle that is enforced chiefly on the poor.

Debt itself is a social construct that enables the wealthy to accrue more and more social power at the expense of poor, while forcing all of us to put ourselves constantly at the disposal of an economy that is wrecking our lives and the biosphere itself.

"Cancel all student loan debt? But that would be unfair to all those people who struggled for years to pay back their student loans!"

Let me assure the reader that, as someone who struggled for years to pay back his student loans and finally did so, this argument makes about as much sense as saying it would be "unfair" to a mugging victim not to mug
their neighbors too.

We honor the memory of our inspiring friend David Graeber, who passed away two years ago today.

Please read something he wrote.

You could start with this essay exploring how we can set long-term goals so as not to be caught off guard by our victories:

#LaborDay is an official holiday established to divert attention from May Day—the traditional day celebrating workers' resistance.

Bosses and politicians want us to celebrate our labor and productivity. Better we celebrate our collective power to revolt.

For #LaborDay, we recommend "A Tale of Two General Strikes," analyzing the last two citywide general strikes in the United States in order to derive proposals about how to organize a general strike in the 21st century.

https://crimethinc.com/twogeneralstrikes

"Looking at the strikes of the 1940s, we can see that any combative labor resistance that breaks out today will likely emerge in defiance of union leadership rather than because of it. Looking at the general strike of 2011, we can see that to succeed, combative organizing must begin outside the workplace as well as within it, connecting the struggles of the unemployed and precarious with those of the employed. Exploring how the strategies that people experimented with in 2011 have fared in the decade since, we can draw up new proposals about what to bring to tomorrow’s uprisings."
It Takes a Whole Village

A Sri Lankan anarchist who participated in the Gota Go Gama movement reflects on the lessons of the occupation at the heart of the uprising that toppled president Rajapaksa.

"GGG was Sri Lanka’s first truly leaderless movement."

"Undercover cops and political spies asked us who the leader was... But like Ravanan [the mythical ten-headed demon king of Lanka] the Aragalaya [Sinhala for “struggle”], too, was many-headed."

https://crimethinc.com/2022/08/09/bajo-el-hormigon-el-bosque-relatos-de-la-defensa-del-bosque-de-atlanta
