Recognizing its potential, he founded China Yellow Pages but faced many challenges, including a lack of local internet access and skepticism.

In 1999, Ma founded Alibaba as a B2B e-commerce platform with a bold vision to be number one globally, not just in China. Despite lacking a formal business plan and technical skills, his intuition, perseverance, and willingness to experiment led to Alibaba’s success. He later founded Taobao in 2003, which outcompeted eBay in China, and Alipay in 2004, pioneering online payments.
