🛞Tyre Strategies-#MexicoGP

12-laps difference between VER and LEC after both pitted for the first time

All Drivers who finished the race after the re-start did 37 laps on a single set. Great effort by HAM, NOR, RUS, PIA, and ALB for making it to the end on a used Medium!

Coming Up: Brazilian GP

🗒Key Notes on #BrazilianGP !

High altitude (700m), but less than Mexico (2200m). Less-dense air➡️cars with more drag and downforce (Merc, AT) will gain

AlphaTauri used smaller cooling outlets in Mexico: they might have a strong weekend (less so, though)

Your prediction?🤔

Minimum speeds (turn 13) at the Mexico City GP :

The average for most drivers was between 61 and 63km/h📊

Alfa Romeo was an exception, though: BOT and ZHO reached 67km/h once, and Zhou's average is 66km/h!

Sacrificing entry/exit for better cornering married the car better, probably🛠

383km/h?!?😳
Possible in Mexico with Monza Wings!😎

Verstappen Top Speed (km/h) in quali

>Hungary (High Load Wing): 314
>Mexico (High Load): 351 [+11.7% due to lower air density]
>Monza (Low Load): 343 [+9.2% due to the skinny wing]

Combining the effects we get 383.4km/h!

In Mexico the cars reach their terminal speed at the end of the straight (the speeds stops increasing), so the exit speed from the previous corner does not impact the top speed.

Running a skinnier wing in Mexico would make the exit speed from the previous corner lower, but this would not impact the top speed.

Cars reached their terminal speed before the braking point (meaning that the speed stops increasing, so a lower exit speed would not impact the top speed significantly (if at all).

Wings for Brazilian GP:

Around 8% lower air density vs sea level➡️ favours more downforce at the expense of more drag.

RB: maximum load (very efficient car, can afford the drag penalty👌).

Still, some teams like Alfa are focusing on reducing their drag (sacrificing downforce).🚨

Top teams, as McL, Merc, Ferrari, RB (not shown) are using high-downforce wings due to the many corners of Interlagos and the lower air density.

AlphaTauri, one of the draggiest cars, opted for a less loaded wing to compensate. Are they in for another strong weekend?

Top Speeds!

Alpine, Ferrari and Alfa: very low drag thanks to less loaded wings

RB reached 333km/h despite running a Monaco-spec rear wing! 😳

McL, Aston and Merc have decent drag considering how loaded their wings are: this will hurt them less in qualifying.

Minisectors / 🔴SAI vs 🟢RUS vs ⚪️HUL

Russell was 'virtually' P1: just 0.13s away from Leclerc's time, but he was on🟨MEDIUMS!

🔴Ferrari: fastest on every straight
🟢Mercedes: dominated most corners
⚪️Haas: excellent in high-speed braking!

Your POLE prediction?🤔

🗒Notes on Quali!

Rain produced a one-lap showdown: LEC got P2 in a land-of-no-one between VER (-0.294s) and the Astons (+0.323s).

The timing (‘when the lap was done’) influenced the results (e.g. the McLaren drivers both had rain start during their lap).

🟢Aston: quali pace was back!

🔴Ferrari was quick but SAI didn’t capitalize

🔵PER was damaged by 🟠PIA’s outing

What’s YOUR take?🤔

The Starting Grid if the order was based on each driver's fastest lap in qualifying💡

Norris in pole, then the two RedBull cars: McL had IMPRESSIVE potential!

Potential pace:
1) McL
2) RB
3) Aston
4) Ferrari
5)Mercedes

Piastri was unable to match Norris.

STR capitalised massively: P3 with the 10th fastest personal lap!!! Delivering when it matters most.

Alpine bet everything on reducing the drag! 😳

They were 6km/h faster than the 2nd fastest car, and +13km/h over Aston
It was NOT due to a tow!

Aston was draggiest, still their performance was excellent.

If it rains ➡️ Teams on the right should be advantaged.
2🤯2👏1
Each car's properties:

Alpine⬆️: ridicolously low drag (highest top speed by far).

Ferrari, RB➡️: good performance (high avg sped), average drag.

Merc, Aston⬇️: high drag (low top speed), decent performance.

McL↘️: best car, despite the medium-high drag.
🤔31👍1
Each Team's and Driver's best sectors:

Best S1: 🟠McL (Piastri)
Best S2: 🔵RB (Verstappen)
Best S3: 🟠McL (Norris)

McLaren was the fastest car in 2 sectors! And nobody got close in sector 3.📈

Norris would have been favorite for pole if not for the rain. 😭
