Different motorcycle riders ride differently - but what does 'differently' mean?🤔

This image compares 7 different riders in terms of lateral and longitudinal acceleration reached🔎

We used an instrumented motorcycle, employing advanced sensors.

Strain gauges (4) measured the forces exerted on each handlebar and footpeg, and the pressure pad (5) that acquired the rider's position over the saddle.

In Las Vegas, he kept an 11km/h higher cornering speed in the fastest corner despite running a less loaded wing!🤯

The lower drag paid dividends concerning top speed:
+3km/h with DRS
+4km/h without DRS

The speeds are relative to each driver's quickest lap in Q2, so in analogous track conditions.

👀Here is the result:

🟠 McL had the lowest qualifying top speed (340km/h) and the highest race median speed trap value.

🔵 PER had a significantly higher median speed trap value than VER despite running a more loaded wing!
⬇️
Traffic (tow+DRS) impacted the speeds significantly!

🔴Ferrari and 🔵RB had similar top speed:

-PER 22km/h faster when overtaking LEC
-LEC 22km/h faster when overtaking PER


While being overtaken, Leclerc's🪫battery emptied➡️He lost 13km/h!

PER didn't have that problem, so LEC had to overtake under braking!

Rear Wings for Abu Dhabi GP! 👀

Medium-load on average, to combine good downforce with acceptable drag👌

🔼Higher load: RB, McL, Haas
▶️Intermediate load: Mercedes, Alpine
🔽Lower load: Ferrari, Aston, AT

Aston will test two different wings💡

Aston Martin is evaluating two rear wings for Abu Dhabi GP!

Lance Stroll has a conventional DRS plane and a shallower lower plane.

Alonso has a cut DRS plane (but the additional Gurney Flap should give back part of the downforce) and a deeper lower plane.

Characteristics of Abu Dhabi GP💡

- Frequent stop-go➡️Traction/Braking are important
- Medium downforce (compromise between high downforce and low drag)
- Softest compounds (C3-C5)

My prediction:

🔵 RB> 🔴 Ferrari= 🟠 McL> ⚫️ Merc> 🟢 Aston
